HP Deskjet 940c Printer, driver, software and download


Set up your HP Deskjet 940c Printer printer




  1. Unpack the printer and its peripherals from the box.



  2. Turn the knob on the rear access door of the printer counter-clockwise.


  3. Remove the door.



  4. Push the module back into the printer until it snaps firmly into place. (Do not press the buttons on the ends of the module while replacing it.)






Insert paper




  1. Slide the paper adjuster out as far as it will go.


  2. Flip up the OUT tray so that you can see the IN tray more easily.



  3. Place up to 100 sheets of printer paper face down in the IN tray.


  4. Slide the paper adjusters to fit snugly against the edges of the paper.


  5. Lower the OUT tray.






Turn on the power




  1. Locate the power module for the printer.


  2. Insert the rectangular end of the power supply cord into the power outlet on the back of the printer.


  3. Insert the two-prong end of the cord into an electrical outlet.



  4. Press the POWER button to turn on the printer.






Insert cartridges




  1. Open the top cover of the printer.

    When you open the cover of the printer, the RESUME button will flash until you close the cover.

    The printer part that will hold the cartridges (called the cartridge cradle) moves to the center of the printer.


  2. Remove the ink cartridges from the box.


  3. Remove the tape from the cartridges.










    CAUTION: Do not touch the copper contacts (on the back of the cartridges) or the ink nozzles (on the bottom of the cartridges).




  4. Lift the cradle latches inside the printer.


  5. Hold the black ink cartridge vertical, with the copper electrical contacts toward the rear of the printer.


  6. Push the black ink cartridge firmly down into the cradle on the right.



  7. Hold the color ink cartridge vertical, with the copper electrical contacts toward the rear of the printer.


  8. Push the color ink cartridge firmly down into the cradle on the left.


  9. Close both latches.

    When you push down the latches, you will hear a click and feel resistance.


  10. Close the lid of the printer.

    You will hear the sound of the cartridge cradles as they move to the right side of the printer.





Attach the printer

Attach the printer to the computer with a parallel cable or a USB cable.



Print a test page

Turn the printer on and press the RESUME button to print a test page.




  1. If the RESUME light continues to flash, press it again.


  2. If the printer cable is firmly attached to the printer, then check to be sure that the printer cartridges are seated securely in their cradles.


  3. If the printer cartridges are seated firmly in their cradles, then check for any tape or packing material that you may have left inside the printer or on the cartridges.


  4. If you press the RESUME button for too long, you may print several test pages unnecessarily.
